Frequently Asked Questions and Our Recommended Lighting

 - What Are The Advantages of Your Frameless Acrylic, Metal Mounted, and Plaq Mounted Formats?

  • They are ready to hang the moment you unpack the artwork
  • Acrylic, Metal Prints, and PlaqMounted artworks are fully encapsulated and protected from moisture, dust and UV light
  • Pre-mounted artwork reduces the cost of bringing a loose print to a frame shop
  • They are much lighter
  • Low maintenance - much easier to clean and care for
  • The float-mount hanging solution is the most secure method to hang art
  • No framing, brittle glass sheet coverings or distracting mat board to deal with or pay for
  • The details, resolution, vibrancy and visual depth are far more impressive than traditional framed/matted prints
  • Gallery quality formats that provide opulence and luxury value to your space

- Can an Acrylic Print be placed into a Frame?

Yes. Any qualified local art framing studio can handle this for you, and, they look wonderful paired with traditional frames. The best solution is to bring the Acrylic piece with you to experience the frame options in person.

- What About Framing a Print Mounted on Metal?

Yes! Ditto for everything I just mentioned above for Acrylic Prints.

- Can I have a Plaq-Mounted Print Format Framed?

No. Doing so would defeat the purpose of the beautiful beveled wood-toned edge treatments. They are intended to be enjoyed in their native optional wall mount choices.

- What Lighting Do You Recommend for your Premium Quality Formats?

This is a GREAT question asked by clients and yes, properly illuminating my large format pieces in your home makes an impactful difference. The phenomenal vivid colors and details really come to life when combined with the best lighting methods. If you can install simple track lighting or an Art light fixture, this is always best. If you have a track that accepts low voltage 2-pin socket bulbs you can purchase SoLux Bulbs which are the ultimate solution. Otherwise, traditional screw-in track bulbs or even ceiling mounted recessed lights will accept LED bulbs.  With LED's, the artwork can truly be seen and appreciated as it was intended.

- What About Large-Scale Decor Projects or Corporate Clients?

If you have a large scale project I would be pleased to offer my personal assistance over the phone to complete your vision. I've worked with Art project managers for corporate interior designers, and have vast experience with nature-inspired Eco-art therapy pieces needed in Healthcare facilities and Spas. I am able to offer reasonable discount incentives of 5 pieces or more. For orders of 10 or more pieces, please contact me so I can work up a quote.

- Do you offer Frames and Matts on your website?

If you are purchasing my loose "print only" option (just the art print)  then choosing a frame, liner and mat color for a photographic print should be done after the print arrives at your home. It's always best to experience this in person so you can bring photos of furnishing to match or fabric swatches to pick up colors. I recommend bringing your new Print to a local qualified art framing gallery.

- Do I Offer Canvas Gallery Wraps?

No, I do not make this option available on my website. Canvas gallery wraps simply do NOT meet my high standards of a fine art print display. I've never been 100% satisfied with this method and I feel it is extremely outdated print technology. The internal frames are subject to warping, leaving uneven visible gaps between the artwork and the wall and the nature of canvas greatly reduces the extreme details of the image.

- Did You Recently Upgrade Your Metal Prints?

This has been a project I've been working on since the autumn of 2018. After nearly a full year of not offering any Metal Prints at all, I've finally found a professional print lab that can provide the quality that I demand. I will no longer offer the traditional dye-sublimated Chromaluxe Metal prints due to the issues they present. (I'll get into that in a minute)

I am thrilled to say I'm offering a serious upgrade to the dye-sublimation method. The new method begins with my imagery being developed on a high-grade photographic paper exposed using state of the art laser technology. The photographic print is then top-mounted over an aluminum Dibond backing composite material that is robust and lightweight. The biggest difference in visual quality is the traditional development of the imagery ensures perfect results.

In addition, the Dibond material is 3mm thick that now offers visual depth, and is black when viewed from the sides. In the past, to achieve that stunning look of a black edge around a metal print you had to upgrade to the Exhibit Mount option. That is no longer necessary, you can achieve the same look while saving nearly 20% of the previous price point!  To finish off the piece, a durable UV protective seal is placed over the imagery. This high-quality protective laminate is so thin and transparent it does not affect the way the artwork appears. It protects the imagery from harmful UV light, dust, and fingerprints and makes for easy cleaning.

- What Were the issues with Dye-Sublimated Metal Prints?

There are a few undeniable issues to consider with dye-sublimated metal prints (ChromaLuxe) as a fine art photography print format and I no longer felt comfortable allowing my work to be reproduced in this manner. The first being a loss in extremely fine details (slightly blurred) of the image. What happens during the dye-sublimation process is the transfer paper is subject to movement or slippage. The second issue, and something I found terribly annoying, is the loss of subtle details in the shadow areas. In the industry, we call this "muddy".

Yet another issue with dye-sublimated Metal prints is a visible loss or inaccurate reproduction of colors. Most print labs with integrity are upfront about this and claim the image can expect about an 8-10% loss of detail and color saturation. Lastly, when I visit art shows to browse other artists' works, I easily notice common metal prints are very prone to showing the slightest imperfections and "ripples" or waves in the aluminum sheet. This is particularly evident where the mounting hardware is attached from behind. The imperfections are more prominent with a high gloss finish.

By switching to the Mounted to Metal option, ripples and waviness are no longer an issue due to the rigid Dibond backing substrate.
